Several teams of the south-east district police have been sent to the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar along the Nepalese border on Tuesday to track down the missing domestic help who allegedly strangulated an elderly woman to death at her south-east Delhi’s Jangpora residence on Sunday night and absconded from the house after carrying out a robbery. The police has so far not been able to ascertain the whereabouts of the accused domestic help.
The police said the suspect, who was hired by the victim Vimal Shah’s family in September without getting his police verification done, has been identified and his photograph has been procured from an unnamed source, despite it not being available with the family.
The police said the accused was carrying a mobile phone with him which was switched off when the cops tried to contact the number.
“The photograph has been obtained and it has been released to the media. Our teams are on his trail. We are hopeful that the accused will be arrested very soon,” Ajay Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (south east), said.
The police has also declared a reward of `25,000 which will be offered to any person providing information on the accused’s whereabouts. The police said the identity of the informer will be kept secret.
Vimal Saha, 80, was found strangulated to death at her K-7 residence in Jungpura extension residence on Monday morning by her neighbour.
The victim’s residence was found ransacked and robbery was carried out. The victim was alone at the house at the time of incident and her son had gone to Singapore along with his wife to meet his son when the incident took place.
