Opp. bandh may hit city traffic today
Opposition parties, including the Left and the BJP, have called for an all-India bandh on Monday against the steep rise in prices. And it is adversely going to hit normal life in many cities including the capital.
Authorities in the city are prepared to take all security measures to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the strike. However, essential services like milk, water and hospitals have been exempt.
“Public transport is likely to be hit in most places. Most schools, colleges and offices are likely to remain shut in Delhi,” said a Delhi government official.
“In New Delhi, people could face hardships in reaching their destinations as the workers of Opposition parties, including the Left and the BJP, plan to block traffic in several parts of the city. Extra police personnel will be deployed in all areas,” said a senior Delhi police officer.
The four Left parties — CPI(M), CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc — will organise a protest demonstration at the busy ITO Chowk, which connects east Delhi with the heart of the city, confirmed the police officers. The rally is likely to reach Janpath and there will be a huge police deployment in these areas to maintain law and order, said officials.
It has been confirmed that the Left parties will organise protests at nine places in New Delhi while there will be three demonstrations in Ghaziabad and one in Noida. Out of the total 13 demonstrations by the Left, three will be organised by the CPI(M) alone.
Meanwhile, the BJP will organise protests across the city. Party president Nitin Gadkari and former BJP president Rajnath Singh will take part in the main protest at Chandni Chowk.
Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta on Sunday appealed to managements to keep their schools closed on Monday and requested parents not to send their children to schools.
Mr Gupta also appealed to Delhi government not to operate DTC buses. “The government should also instruct the Delhi Metro not to operate on Monday,” he said.

I support the nationwide strike for the gross mismanagement of the country's rule by the Congress party and its allies on the following counts for the last six years:
1. Failure of the agricultural minister to contain skyrocketing prices & to stop consistent farmers suicide in Maharashtra.
2. Failure of the government to provide security in the country (Maoist threat)
3. Mr. Patel who does not have a clue on Air India, creating huge burden on the already stressed national exchequer.
4. Controlling 80% of media like NDTV, TOI, DNA, Headlines etc and misleading the nation on critical issues.
5. Failure to punish Afzal Guru & Kasab Mr. Anderson (Bhopal Gas Tragedy) & Mr. Quotrachi (of Bofors fame) to go Scot free.
6. Failure of the government to provide security in Maharashtra from train blasts, terrorist attack at Taj and Oberoi
