No headway in HC blast probe
The investigators from crime branch and special cell are analysing the evidence to ascertain the identity of the culprits who placed the bomb under a car in Delhi high court parking. Meanwhile, police commissioner B.K. Gupta ruled out that the bomb was triggered to cause serious damage.
“The explosive used in the bomb weighed 250 grams approximately. Although the exact contents will be known from the forensic report, the iron nails in it were rusted, indicating that it was prepared weeks before,” a special cell official said.
Police commissioner B.K. Gupta met Union home minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday to brief him about the situation.
“We have sent the samples for forensic examination and the CFSL report is awaited. It was a low-intensity blast not aimed at causing major damage. That’s why even the car under which it was placed was not damaged much,” he said.
Asked whether it was a planned terror strike, he said, “It will be too early to say anything. The matter is being probed by the best investigators from crime branch and special cell.” Sources however said that the police was groping to find leads in the case since there is no technical surveillance in the area.
“Most of the people at the site were outsiders and no one has approached us with any information so far. The bomb bears footprints of the Indian Mujahidden,” a source said.
The security agencies have fanned out investigators across some states in north India, including Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, to follow the leads. The police has also obtained the call details records from the mobile towers in the area. Some vendors are also being questioned for leads.
