New mayors meet CM, discuss issues
After a long political tug of war over the trifurcation of MCD, leaders of both the Congress and the BJP finally met for the progress of the city. All the three mayors of Delhi met Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday. The three new elected mayors of BJP, Meera Aggarwal from north, Annapoorna Mishra from east and Savita Gupta from south and deputy mayors Azad Singh and Usha Shastri came to pay a courtesy call to the chief minister.
The mayors discussed general issues concerning the new setup of the MCD. The mayors also expressed the difficulties in the MCD.
The chief minister requested them to take up such issues with the concerned minister and the directors of the city government. Ms Dikshit also said that the city government has been regularly releasing the required funds to the erstwhile MCD and will continue to do so in all times to come as and when required. She exhorted the new mayors to start their work, understand the issues and perform. “In case the three new MCDs fail to perform and continue to blame the city government, it will not be acceptable,” Ms Dikshit said.
The chief minister also reminded the new mayors to concentrate on the basic responsibilities of the MCDs such as sanitation, cleanliness, maintenance of their roads and street lighting.
Earlier, the Delhi BJP and the Congress came face to face on the issue of MCD trifurcation and they continuously blamed each other for the lack of basic amenities.
