Need to sensitise people against crime stressed
TV actors, social activists and people from all walks of life participated in a rally at Jantar Mantar here on Monday to raise voice against the growing incidence of crime in the society at large, and the city in particular.
Team Anna member and retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi, actors Sushant Singh and Nasir Abdullah, television anchors Gaurav Chopra and Sufi singer Zila Khan were among those who participated in the “Protest Against Crime” rally at Jantar Mantar.
Sufi singer Zila Khan said that the rise in the crime graph is related to “boredom” in life. The singer said that music, theatre and cultural activities should be promoted by the state. Music and arts have a soothing effect on the agitated mind, he added.
“If people get exposure to music, theatre, craft, photography and other creative pursuits, then the mind would never veer towards criminal activities,” said Khan.
Heena Malik, executive director of Serve Humanity Foundation that deals with women empowerment, development and other women-related issues, said, “This rally is to create awareness about crime against women and how to protect them.”
Shobha, a 44-year-old housewife, said there is no hope that crime against women or their harassment will stop ever but initiatives like this will at least spread awareness among people and sensitise them.
Actors from Savdhan India, a new crime show launched by Life OK channel, gave tips to people on preparedness against crime and ways to tackle criminal acts under any circumstance.
