NDMC’s bar code licences to teh bazari allottees
Following a protest of shopkeepers of Palika Bazar in NDMC area against the squatters threatening to security of the place, the council would now issue bar code identification licences for its teh bazari allottees. Chairman of the council Jalaj Shrivastav said that flea markets in the NDMC area will have licenced teh bazaari allottees.
He also affirmed that these bar code numbers will also be issued to the police for the identification of the teh bazaris.
An NDMC official said, “The initiative would surely help the police in identifying the offenders across the NDMC zone.”
Describing the poor state of management in the area, he said, “These vendors often get photostat copies of the licence of authorised hawkers in the market and operate under their garb.” The council has decided to bring the bar code system in order to avoid the crowding, the official added.
In NDMC area, there are 48 teh bazari allottees and 49 other stay holders whereas several hundreds of hawkers and squatters are operating under the garb of these people. According to the shopkeepers, the 97 allottees have also encroached.
Last month, Palika Bazar Shopkeepers’ Welfare Association protested in front of the enforcement department of the NDMC.
“There is no enough space for passersby and it is very difficult to commute through the lanes they are sitting on,” said a shopkeeper at Palika market.
