MP, AIIMS prof among cyber crime targets
The cyber cell of Delhi police’s Economic Offences Wing has registered four cases of cyber crime in the past two days following complaints, including from Congress MP Naveen Jindal and an AIIMS professor.
While Ms Jindal has complained of “derogatory” postings on Facebook and demanded their blocking, AIIMS orthopaedics professor Prakash P. Kotwal is aggrieved at derogatory emails, postings on social networking sites and blogs.
Two other complaints — harassment of a woman residing in Munirka area of South Delhi, and cloning of the website of ministry of statistics and implementation — have also been registered, a senior police official said on Sunday.
Mr Naveen Jindal said in his complaint that some unknown persons want to tarnish his image and that some community pages have come up in his name on Facebook with defamatory and abusive messages.
“There are also some messages posted on the said pages representing as that having posted by me. I suspect that these pages have been created with ulterior motives and may be part of a larger conspiracy,” he claimed.
AIIMS orthopaedic department head Dr Kotwal complained that derogatory emails started pouring in after interviews for the post of assistant professor in March 2012.
“Somebody with probably a fake name (Madhusudhan Patel, this name does not exist in Indian Orthopaedic Association) sent a mail to AIIMS. The matter was looked in depth by authorities and the allegations were found to be false,” he said.
However, the email was sent in another name and derogatory comments were posted on social networking sites and blogs.
