MCD staffer victim of clerks’ blunder
A fourth grade employee of the education department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is the latest victim of the department’s blunders. The corporation forgot to retire the victim even five years after her date of retirement.
The victim, Vidyawanti, 65, was working as a fourth grade employee in the MCD school in Civil Lines Zone. The department clerks forgot the retirement date of the victim not for days or months but for five years and suddenly during the scrutiny of old file last September, they realised that she had worked five years after the date of retirement.
She was supposed to retire on January 31 2006.
To cover up their own blunder, the clerks immediately retired the victim in September 2011 and allegedly stopped all her post-retirement benefits which she was due to get.
When the victim contacted the clerks, they demanded her five years’ salary which she refused to pay claiming that she was paid for her work. The victim is now running pillar to post in the North MCD offices to get her post-retirement benefits. When contacted, a senior official said that he is surprised with the incident.
“Such incidents had been reported earlier when date of retirement of some employees was skipped for one or two months. But the employee got his full payment of the period and also got the retirement benefits. However the officials found guilty in the cases were punished. We will investigate this case and those guilty will be punished,” said a senior MCD official.
Meanwhile the Leader of the House in North MCD, Mr Mahender Nagpal, assured justice to the victim.
“I do not know about this but I will ask for a departmental enquiry in the case. The victim will not be disappointed,” he told this newspaper.
