MCD plans new medical college
The ambitious project of the MCD to set up a 1,000-bed hospital and a 200-seat medical college is likely to see the light of the day. The MCD has issued expressions of interest for the project, costing around `600 crores, that is to be executed in the public-private-partnership (PPP) mode. The medical college will offer MBBS and courses in nursing and hospital administration.
A senior MCD functionary said that quite a few firms have showed interest in the project.
Essentially, the project would entail refurbishing and revamping of the Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis in Kingsway Camp, northwest Delhi. The project will come up over 50 acres of land, belonging to the 1,155-bed Rajan Babu Hospital spread over 78 acres. The private player would be responsible for building the medi-city and operate it for not more than 30 years and would also renovate the Rajan Babu Institute into a modern hospital, besides constructing a 1,000-bed general hospital. The renovated institute will be handed over to MCD two years after completion.
“Nursing, hospital administration, pharmacy and other medicine-related courses will be started. It is mandatory that the institute should be attached with a hospital. Advanced laboratories and a well-equipped trauma centre would also be the part of the project,” said chairman of health committee, V.K. Monga.
