Manipuri extremists remanded to custody
Four alleged militants belonging to a Manipuri extremist outfit have been arrested by the special cell of the Delhi police. The accused were remanded to two-day police custody by a city court here.
In their plea for custodial interrogation, the Delhi police told the court of chief metropolitan magistrate Kaweri Baweja that the accused — identified as Langian alias Manocha (23), Maiban Radheyshyam (26), Sapam Samnanda Singh (28) and Sagolshen Samanda (28) — were allegedly involved in incidents of explosions and firing in Manipur. They owed allegiance to an outfit called Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, the police told the court. The accused were arrested early on Wednesday. However, the police did not disclose the location.
Further, the police said that the accused also had links with another extremist organisation, the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak), which demands separate homeland for Manipur. It was also alleged that the accused would extort money from businessmen and government officials of the state.
While the police asked for a five-day custody to unravel their motive behind their stay in the capital, the court allowed them custody only till August 13.
