Man shot dead near court after acquittal

A 30-year-old man was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants soon after he was acquitted in an attempt to murder case by a Saket court.
The incident took place near Saket Court Complex in south Delhi on Thursday afternoon. The police has identified the assailants.
A senior police official sad the deceased was identified as Kapil, a resident of Sangam Vihar. The official said that Kapil was involved in several criminal cases. He was having personal enmity with a rival gang.
On Thursday, he appeared in the court in an attempt to murder case in which he was acquitted. Kapil had come to the court with his friends Rohit and Balbir, alias Balraj, in an SUV.
“Kapil told his friends that he had to meet one Titu who had taken a loan of `18,000 from him. Kapil had called Titu in a nearby park in Pushp Vihar to collect the money. They went to meet Titu. Kapil got off the car and was talking to Titu while Rohit and Balraj were standing far away. Meanwhile, two persons came on a motorcycle. One of them got off the bike, took out a pistol and fired around six rounds at Kapil even before he could understand anything. Kapil collapsed on the ground,” said the police official.
The assailants then fled from the spot. The police rushed to the spot on being informed about the incident and recovered three empty bullet shells from the crime scene.
A police source said that Kapil and his accomplices had allegedly killed one Monty last year after kidnapping him from Pul Prahladpur area. Monty’s body was dumped in Meerut, UP, by Kapil and his aides. The police had named Kapil in this case.
“We suspect that Monty’s brother Kamal could be behind the incident,” said the source.
The police officials said that an FIR of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code as also sections of the Arms Act was lodged at the Saket police station.
Several teams have been pressed into service to crack the case and arrest the killers.
