Man held for Rs 51 lakh ATM cash van heist
The police has arrested a man in connection with the cash van heist case that took place in Mahindra Park area of northwest Delhi. The accused was carrying a reward of `1 lakh on his arrest.
A senior police official said the accused, identified as Om Pal, alias Suraj, used to work as a driver with Logi Cash Solution Pvt Ltd, a firm which works for Oriental Bank of Commerce to load cash in the bank’s ATMs.
“On December 28, last year the accused was given assignment to load cash in the different ATMs of the bank. He was driving a Maruti Eco car in which his two colleagues Hemant and Yogesh and a gunman Brijesh were present. They set out from the regional office at Jhandewalan with `81 lakhs cash that was to be loaded in ATMs. When they reached Subzi Mandi, driver Om Pal Singh offered his colleague sweets laced with sedatives and fled with `51 lakhs abandoning the cash van near Jahangirpuri Metro Station,” said the police official.
The driver had provided two address proofs but left both places. The police learnt that he had an account in Muthoot Finance Co where he was to visit. The police laid a trap and nabbed his wife but he managed to flee. “He was finally held from Haidarpur in Outer Delhi. He revealed that he has been involved in murder, rape, robbery and dacoity cases. He hatched a plan with his wife to decamp with cash after intoxicating his colleagues,” said the police official.
