Man held for posing as lawyer to dupe litigants
The Delhi police has arrested a man for allegedly duping people by posing as a lawyer in the Saket Court complex in south Delhi.
The police said that the accused Rohit Kumar, 25, has been arrested in a cheating and forgery case on December 1.
“We received a complaint from a person named Rambir from Haryana. He told us that a man posing as advocate Harish accosted him while he was standing outside court number eight in the Saket Court Complex regarding challan of his vehicle and told him that he would help him in depositing the fine in the concerned court. He took `6,000 from him, gave his mobile number and asked him to wait. But he never returned and his phone was switched off,” said a senior police officer.
The police lodged an FIR following the complaint of the victim and a team started investigation.
The officers found some more similar complaints of forgery.
“We analysed the CCTV footage of the court complex and tallied the description of the accused given by the victims. On December 1, the team nabbed the accused and he was identified as Rohit Kumar, a resident of GTB Nagar in UP,” the official added.
The officials said that the accused once worked as an assistant of a renowned lawyer in the Supreme Court. He then started posing as a lawyer to dupe innocent people in the court.
“We have recovered a PAN card with the name of Sanjeev Kumar, one driving license of Vishwajeet, four blank vakalatnamas, three challan receipts, one mobile phone and two SIM cards from his possession,” the official added.
