An abduction bid was foiled by vigilant Army jawans near Dilli Haat on Monday afternoon when a man drove away with a Santro car in which a woman passenger was seated. The owner of the car, who had left the keys in the vehicle, had gone to withdraw cash from an ATM inside the petrol pump.
An Army vehicle, which was waiting just behind the Santro car at the pump, saw the woman waving for help from inside the car as it drove away and gave it a chase. The car was intercepted near Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan close to Safdarjung Airport and the accused, identified as Naval Kishore Aggarwal, who is being questioned by the police to ascertain his motive, was nabbed and handed over to the police.
Top police sources said the incident took place at around 4.45 pm on Monday in Sarojini Nagar area. The owner of the car, identified as Samir Topo, a resident of Gole Market, had gone with his sister-in-law to file the form for her nursing course when the incident happened.
“As he drove in the petrol pump, he asked an attendant to refill the car’s tank. His sister-in-law was seated besides the driver’s seat. When the tank got filled and the attendant asked for money, Topo got down from the car to take out cash from the ATM at the pump,” a source said.
Just moments after he left the car, Kishore got inside the Santro, started it and drove away along with Topo’s sister-in-law. An astounded Topo couldn’t understand what had happened and made a call to the police control room. Occupants of an Army vehicle waiting in queue behind the Santro saw the woman waving and screaming for help as Kishore sped away and gave it a chase and finally overtook it near Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan.
In the meantime, at least four PCR vans arrived at the pump. The accused was brought there along with the car as a large crowd of eager onlookers gathered to see what had happened. The accused was handed over to the police. He was being interrogated to ascertain the motive behind his alleged abduction bid till last reports came in.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
