Maid case: Accused in 14-day custody
A Delhi court Wednesday remanded a 50-year-old woman, arrested for allegedly physically torturing and confining her young maid, to 14-days judicial custody.
The accused, Vandana Dhir, was produced before additional chief metropolitan magistrate Sudesh Kumar, following the expiry of her one-day police custody, which sent to her judicial remand till October 15, after police said she was not needed for further custodial interrogation.
Dhir was arrested on Tuesday from her south Delhi residence in Vasant Kunj for allegedly torturing her maid. She lives with her 85-year-old mother.
In its submission before the court, the counsel for Dhir claimed that the girl was “mentally unstable” and the injuries were there on her body earlier also, for which the accused was “continuously giving her (victim) medical treatment.”
However, the police opposed the defence claim, stating grievous injury marks where found on the girl’s body, including a deep cut mark on her head and the victim had herself stated that she was confined in house and beaten continuously.
