Liquor brands get nod to open showrooms in city
Soon, Delhi will boast of liquor showrooms as the city government has given nod to a proposal in this regard on the condition that the liquor company must have five brands of its own.
The Delhi government will issue licenses to liquor companies once they meet the terms and conditions. These showrooms can be opened at district centres, metropolitan centres or community centres. The city government’s decision will allow the people to walk in a showroom to buy brands of the same company, said a senior excise official. This will be in departure to the current norms of government-licensed shops selling all kinds of liquor brands under one roof.
“The excise department will issue 52-D license for such liquor showrooms. So far, these companies were being given L-1 license for selling liquor in wholesale. The proposed showrooms must have 1,000 square feet area to get the license,” added the official.
The license for such showrooms will cost `10 lakhs annually to the companies.
