Lawyer’s son kidnapped, `50 lakhs ransom sought
A 28-year-old man was abducted by unknown persons in a car from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg on Monday evening. The abductors have demanded `50 lakhs in ransom from his family for his safe release.
The police said the victim, who works with a legal firm and is a resident of Paschim Vihar, had gone to his office at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg on Monday but did not return. His father, a lawyer, approached the I.P. Estate police station. The family received a ransom call of `50 lakhs on Monday night. The police is also investigating if the abduction was staged by the victim to extort money from his father.
Police source said his father had negotiated with the abductors and had promised to pay them `25 lakhs. Three separate police teams are investigating the matter. Sources said the victim was abducted at around 11.30 pm on Monday.
The victim is reported to have made a call to the police control room and informed that some people are trying to abduct him.
“A police team reached there, but he was nowhere. A car stopped near him on BS Zafar Marg and four people were trying to drag him in when he made the call. He has not been traced so far,” a police official said.
