L-G comes up with new formula to make pupils respect women

With women security being a major issue in the capital, particularly in the wake of the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case, Delhi lieutenant governor Tejendra Khanna has suggested taking it in writing from students passing Class 8 and above that they would respect women throughout their lives.

Addressing the conference of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University at the new Dwarka campus, Mr Khanna said, “I want the boys of Class 8 and above of all the 1,100 government schools to give it in writing that they will respect women all their lives so that it gets embedded in their mind for life”.
He said that there is a doubt that Delhi streets are safe for women today but people of Delhi can make it safe by putting forth a deliberate attempt. Underlining the importance of family ties, he said that in a family, there should be no space for aggression and misbehaviour and one should abstain from butterfly relationships. He also asked the students to show respect to other religions. Talking about the rat race, Mr Khanna said, “Money making is important but it should not be the end. Pharmaceutical companies do not put the salts they claim on the labels, food is adulterated. Where will we end up cheating others”.
Meanwhile, on this occasion, Delhi Metro chief Mr E. Sreedharan was conferred on a degree of Doctorate of Philosophy, honoris causa, for his achievements.
Mr Sreedharan expressed happiness and said that the Delhi Metro has set standards for the working of an organisation.
“Delhi Metro is a shining example of how government projects can be completed in time and within estimate. It has a unique work culture based on five cardinal principles, punctuality, integrity, professional competence and social accountability”.
Former Chairman Dr K Kasturirangan delivered the convocation address. At this convocation 20 Ph D, 2453 Master Degrees, 8857 Bachelor degrees and 82 MBBS degrees were awarded to the students. A total of 66 gold medals were also given away to the meritorious students of various courses.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
