Juvenile rape accused turns 18
The juvenile accused in the December 16 gangrape turned 18 on Tuesday. According to records submitted by the principal of the school where he studied till Class 3, the accused was 17 years and six months old at the time of commission of the offence on December 16.
However, according to the sources, accused attaining majority will have no bearing on the trial and he will continue to stay in the same juvenile home he has been staying at.
“For security reasons, the juvenile gangrape accused in this case has been kept in the a particular home and he will remain there. So, there is no question of shifting him anywhere,” said an official.
The accused was one of the six accused of brutal assault and rape of a 23-year-old physiotherapy student in a moving bus in the city.
The Juvenile Justice Board will now hear arguments of the defence from June 26.

Man held with `21l electronics
New Delhi, June 4: A man has been arrested at the airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle memory cards and pen drives worth `21 lakh. The accused has been identified as Sohanlal Mahavir Prasad Kabra, a resident of Pune, customs officials said. Thirty eight-year-old Kabra has arrived from Hong Kong on Sunday.
“On detailed examination of his baggage, 4,039 memory cards and 187 pen drives were recovered having a total value of `21 lakh,” the officials said in a release.
Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a racket involved in selling duplicate printer toners and drums of a multi-national company with the arrest of a person in this connection. “Rupesh Dalmia, a resident of Ghaziabad, was arrested from Mangaldip Enterprises in Daryaganj after we received input about sale of duplicate toners and drums of Panasonic company in the area,” DCP (Central) Alok Kumar said. — PTI
