JNU V-C lauds varsity polls system
New vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University supports the JNU Students’ Union election system terming it unique. Prof. Sudhir Kumar Sopory is also set to promote new courses and research programmes in the university. He also underlined the need to improve the teacher student relationship and said that the teachers delivering the best will be awarded.
“The JNUSU elections are unique. We don’t want to lose something so precious. The JNU has given national leaders to the country. We need to prepare good leaders for country. However, the matter of JNUSU election is subjudice,” he said.
When asked what is on his agenda as new VC, Prof. Sopory said, “Students are my topmost priority.”
Talking about the new courses and programmes, he said, “In the next few years, we plan to introduce new courses and research programmes that will lift the quality and quantity of research. We plan to introduce subject exchange programme that will enable science student to study literature for sometime. This will help in the multi-dimensional growth of the student.” He also stressed the need to improve functioning of the administration block. He said he has instructed employees not to let the file be on their desk for more than 48 hours.
