Jewellery stolen after check-in
Jewellery worth lakhs of rupees was stolen from the baggage of a Gurgaon-based businessman’s wife after she checked in at Ranchi airport last week.
A complaint was filed by the victim, Geeta Bhandari, at the IGI police station on Thursday wherein she has alleged that jewellery worth `3 lakhs and some cash kept in her baggage when she checked in at the Ranchi airport was missing when she opened it upon arrival at her Greenwoods City, Gurgaon residence.
The victim was returning from the residence of her parents in Jamshedpur.
Police officials said the victim had arrived in Delhi at 10 am by an Air India flight on February 2.
“When I reached home and after taking some rest, I opened my suitcase and found the jewellery box missing. After vigorous search, I noticed that the suitcase was broken from behind after opening the chain. Then I went to IGI airport with my husband and contacted Air India customer care immediately,” she said.
“I suspect that my jewellery was stolen somewhere in between from the scanner to loading in the aircraft at Ranchi airport,” she stated. The victim has asked the duty manager of Air India to furnish the images of CCTV cameras and scanners at the airport. A case of theft has been registered at the IGI police station.
This is the second incident involving the airlines.
Last week, Air India lodged an FIR against two employees for stealing from checked-in baggage. The accused, identified as Dalbir Singh and Naresh Kumar, both employees of AISATS, were caught on CCTV stealing cameras.
