Irish national found dead in hotel
A 51-year-old Irish national was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Paharganj area of Central Delhi on Monday morning.
Speaking to this newspaper, DCP (central) Alok Kumar said the deceased, identified as James Stephens, was found dead in room number 102 of hotel Krishna Cottage.
“We received a PCR call in this respect at around 4 am. A team was immediately sent to the hotel and the door was broken. James was found dead in the room. His body has been sent to Sucheta Kriplani Hospital for the post-mortem. We have written a letter to the embassy in this respect,” said Mr Kumar.
The official further said the postmortem of the deceased would be conducted after getting a reply from embassy officials.
According to information, the deceased had come on a tourist visa and checked into the hotel on July 3.
The hotel staff told the police that he was last seen in the hotel on July 6.
“His room was locked from inside. Hotel employees got suspicious after a stench started emanating from his room early on Monday. They then called the police,” said DCP Alok Kumar.
The senior official said that the police investigation team did not find any foul play in the murder so far.
The statements of hotel employees have been recorded and further investigations are on, the police official said.
