IAS aspirant found dead, one detained
A civil services aspirant was found dead in northeast Delhi on Monday with the police suspecting the role of his “live-in partner” who has been detained for questioning.
The police said that the deceased, Amit Kumar Sharma, was found dead with multiple stab injuries near a canal in Ashok Nagar. The police issued advertisements in newspapers following which the family and friends of the deceased approached and identified him.
The family members of Amit, a native of Allahabad, told the police that he was preparing for the UPSC exam and was staying with a live-in partner in Badarpur area.
“On July 3, three friends of Amit invited him for party and they had liquor. After the party, his friends dropped him at Nehru Place Metro Station from where he boarded a train,” a senior police official said.
The police said Amit was talking to his mother on mobile when the call ended abruptly after some noise. Then his mobile was not reachable. “Amit’s mother then contacted his friends who reached the spot to search for him. But Amit was not found. A complaint was lodged with the police,” said the official.
The official further said that his 24-year-old girlfriend was missing from Badarpur after the incident, which raised suspicion. She has been detained. “The statements of his friends have been recorded. So far, no arrests have been made,” the official said.
