Heavy rush outside court, crowd says verdict justified

Crowds inside and outside the courtroom at the Saket Court applauded the judgment as the news of death penalty being awarded to the four convicts in the December 16 gangrape case was announced.

“I’m a mother of a 17-year-old daughter and I hail the judgment. The punishment given by the court is justified,” said Kiran, a central Delhi resident who had come to hear the verdict.
Earlier, the Saket court had come to a virtual standstill in the post-lunch session as onlookers, court staff and litigants eagerly awaited the verdict.
Anxious reporters from national and international organisations waited outside courtroom 304 on third floor. The courtroom was jam packed with journalists and police, while the four convicts stood at the back of the room.
