HC rejects Bitta plea for NSG cover to self, family
The plea of former Youth Congress president and chairman of All-India Anti-Terrorist Front, Maninderjit Singh Bitta, for security cover by the elite National Security Guards (NSG) commandos was dismissed by the Delhi high court.
While dismissing Mr Bitta’s plea for NSG cover for himself and his family members, Justice S. Muralidhar
said, “The decision to withdraw the NSG cover and to require the Delhi police to provide security cover is based on the assessment made by a committee constituted by the ministry of home affairs. This court lacks the competence to assess the threat perception in relation to the petitioner and his family members.”
The Union home ministry had in October last year directed the Delhi police to take over the security of Mr Bitta and had withdrawn the NSG commandos deployed for his protection.
Mr Bitta had then moved the Delhi HC seeking a direction to the Centre to give him the security cover by NSG commandos.
