Have no fear, texts fake: Cops
The Delhi police has called on the people not to believe the mischievous SMSes in circulation about threat of Northeast people being targeted in Delhi after Ramzan. Urging the Northeast community not to fear, the police said that adequate security measures have been taken.
“Fake SMSes about northeastern people being targeted in Delhi, particularly after Ramzan, are in circulation. Do not believe them,” said joint commissioner of police Robin Hibu.
He said anyone in doubt can contact him on phone numbers 011-25315003 and 9810083486 or on his email robinhibu@gmail.com.
Senior officials have reviewed the security for Northeast people, Mr Hibu said.
The police held meetings with Northeast migrants living in Janakpuri, Mahipalpur, Munirka, Mukherjee Nagar and assured security.
“More visible patrolling in select areas is continuing. In case of any rumour just dial 100, inform the police,” JCP Hibu said.
The police is still verifying the source of the threatening SMSes. “Strict action will be taken against those circulating these SMSes,” said a police official.
Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar had tweeted Friday night, “Friends from N-E please do not go by rumours. They are rumours and only rumours. Please discard them. We are with you. No need to panic.”
