H1N1 toll 30, case count 916
The death toll due to swine flu reached 30 as one more patient died at a city hospital due to the virus. “One patient succumbed to H1N1 virus on Tuesday at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. He was a resident of Delhi,” Dr Debashish Bhattacharya, Delhi government’s nodal officer for H1N1 cases, said.
Another 53 swab samples tested positive for H1N1 virus taking the count of laboratory-confirmed swine flu cases in the city to 916 so far this year.
In this season, 11 outstation flu patients also died in city hospitals, taking the total number to 30.
Delhi mayor P.R. Sawhney expressed his concern over the rising cases and sought people’s cooperation in tackling the situation.
He once again appealed to MCD mosquito breeding checkers, who are threatening to go on a strike from September 6 demanding regularisation of jobs, to refrain from ceasework. He said that they can approach the MCD after the Games and the issue can be settled afterwards.
The national capital reported 74 new dengue cases since Monday taking the total to 916. The city reported three dengue deaths this season.
Among the total 916 cases so far, 801 have been reported from MCD areas, 101 from NDMC areas and the rest were from other parts of the city and outstation cases.

Man duped, bought fake gold brick

A businessman was allegedly cheated by an unidentified man who sold him a fake gold brick worth over `2.5 lakhs.
Police officials said the victim, Chand Muhammad, works at an electronic appliance repair shop in Sadar Bazar, north Delhi, took `2.65 lakhs from his employer Kuldeep Singh for the purchase. His friend Sameer told him that he had some gold bricks which were buried in his land and that he was selling it for `3 lakhs.
“Singh assured Chand that he will get a gold brick and promised to share the profit. After collecting the money on Sunday, he went to Mewat, Haryana to meet Sameer and make the deal. On Monday, he returned to the city and gave the brick to Singh. When Singh went to a jeweller to verify its authenticity, it was found to be a fake,” a sources said.
Singh then approached the police and a complaint was filed at the Sadar Bazar police station.
The police said no case has been registered but an investigation is on.
