Gurgaon Metro hit as line trips
Thousands of commuters were stranded at various stations as the Delhi Metro services were crippled on the Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre line after a problem was reported in OHE line. The trains were run in short loop on various stretches but there was no train available on the 12.53 km Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar stretch.
“At around 7 pm there was a loud sound near Udyog Bhavan and the OHE line tripped. The Metro service on the line came to a standstill for a while after which trains were run in short loops from Jahangirpuri to Central Secretariat and from Qutab Minar to HUDA City Centre. The work on the OHE is on,” a Metro spokesperson said.
The delay caused problems to thousands of people who were returning home after office as they were stranded at various stations.
“I boarded the train at Central Secretariat and when I reached Udyog Bhavan, we were told that the train would not go further. I came out of the Metro station but there were no buses as they have stopped plying on the route. So, I took an auto and reached home, said Shefali Patil, a commuter.
“I went to the Green Park Metro Station but was told that there is no train available due to a technical snag and that I can catch one at Central Secretariat,” said another commuter Deepti Das.
Later, the DTC pushed 15 buses to provide shuttle service from Qutab Minar to Central Secretariat.
Meanwhile, the operations on the Dwarka-Noida line were affected for over 20 minutes when a passenger pressed the emergency alarm button by mistake. The train stopped for a few minutes and the following trains slowed down.
“A train on Dwarka Noida route stopped in the morning when a passenger pressed the emergency alarm button accidentally. The train came to a halt immediately. It took five to six minutes for it to start. The following trains slowed down but the operations normalised in 20 minutes,” said a Delhi Metro spokesperson.
The trains were running at a two minute frequency during the peak hours as the India International Trade Fair was opened for public.
