Gupta gets notice for CM defamation
The city court on Tuesday issued summons to Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta on a complaint filed by chief minister Sheila Dikshit for allegedly calling her a “ cheat” and “villain” before the recent MCD elections.
Metropolitan magistrate Saumya Chauhan, while directing Delhi BJP president to appear before the court, said, “I find it a fit case to call the respondent (Mr Gupta) under section 499/500 (criminal defamation) of the IPC. So the respondent is summoned for June 22.”
In the meantime, reporters present in the court were not allowed to read the file of the case, which the record-keeper termed it as “confidential” but the counsel appearing for Ms Dikshit, who went through the report said that personal reputation is important for every individual and here she was accused of cheating the people. “Personal reputation is most important thing for a person and in this case, it is clear that Sheila Dikshit has been called as ‘cheat and villain’ by Gupta, which is defamatory,” said Ms Dikshit’s counsel Mehmood Pracha.
Further, the counsel also said, a legal notice was issued to Mr Gupta regarding the derogatory words he used against Ms Dikshit before the MCD polls.
