UP govt stalls 2 major NCR projects

Poor governance in the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh has stalled two major multi-crore projects of the national capital. The Public Works Department’s (PWD) project of Bypass road in Kalindi Kunj area and another project of Transco in Noida area of Uttar Pradesh have been stalled. Senior Delhi government officials confirmed that chief minister Sheila Dikshit had personally spoken to her UP counterpart Akhilesh Yadav last year and also written letters in this regard.

“The plan of installing three mega electricity towers has been stuck as the UP government is not responding. Ms Dikshit had contacted UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi party leader Ramgopal Yadav and met Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh to resolve the issue and everyone said that it would be done. The UP government assured that the they will allow the city government to install the mega electricity towers and demanded around `130 crore. But even after six months, they are not providing the land for our project,” said a senior Delhi government official.
The official further said that installation of mega electricity towers would benefit the residents of whole east Delhi area and the Transco (government’s power supply company) would take care of the electricity supply.
Meanwhile, another project of Kalindi Kunj bypass in south Delhi, which is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Faridabad, has also been stalled as some part of the project is on the irrigation land in the UP government’s territory.
“The project had been reviewed to Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in September last year,” the official said. The project was initiated by the city government in year 2002 but it has been delayed because of the problems of land acquisition in Uttar Pradesh.
However, Ms Dikshit had not contacted Akhilesh Yadav for the Kalindi Kunj bypass as the city government is still waiting for the pending issue of installation of electricity towers.
