Govt depts to be rated on performance
In a bid to improve governance, the city government is soon to unveil an online assessment system of various departments. The performance audit will be done by giving different departments points based on their performance against laid down parameters.
Known to borrow ideas from various international cities, this departmental rating based on performance is said to be popular in Canada, New Zealand and Finland. The government will lay down the criteria and the departments will be rated as per the performance, after all departments of the city government have been linked through a network. The ratings will be average, good, excellent or fail, which would be based on how they perform in implementing government programmes and schemes.
The government is hopeful that the move will ensure accountability among the departments apart from letting the department heads know where they are lacking and to take remedial action, said a senior official. Once the system is put in place, Delhi will join a select few countries having the rating system apart from being the first in the country.
The government intends to award the departments doing well in a bid to give incentives to performers.
