Girl, 10, raped, neighbour held
A 10-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her 25-year-old neighbour on Tuesday evening in northeast Delhi’s Khajuri Khas area. The police said that the incident took place at around 6 pm when the victim had gone out to play with her friends. The accused, identified as Sikander, caught her and took her to his house where he allegedly raped her.
Before letting her go, the accused threatened her with dire consequences in case she narrated the incident to anyone. “However, upon reaching her house, the victim broke down and started crying. When her mother tried to pacify her, she narrated her ordeal after which the family went to the Khajuri Khas police station and lodged a complaint against the accused,” a police source said.
Despite repeated attempts, DCP (northeast) S.K. Jain was not available for his comments. However, sources revealed that the victim was sent for medical examination which confirmed that she was sexually assaulted after which a case of rape was registered against the accused.
“After conducting search at several places, the accused was nabbed and taken into custody. He has confessed to his involvement in the crime and was produced in a court today which sent him to jail,” a senior police official said.
