Former police officer, 2 more held for murder
A retired Delhi police official and two other people have been arrested from north Delhi for the murder of a 22-year-old man, the police said on Sunday. One of the accused, Surender, 27, an alleged contract killer, was arrested from Kanjhawala area on Friday. Two other accused, Vedprakash, 52, a retired Delhi police official, and Sandeep Kumar, 40, a property dealer, were arrested from the same area earlier on September 8, a police official said. According to a police official, two co-accused Rakesh and Naveen, friends of Surender, are untraced and on the run, the official said. The accused were involved in the killing of Arun Kumar, 22, in Kanjhawala area on September 5. The assailants, hired by Vedprakash, pumped six bullets into him.
The police said Vedprakash’s son was involved in a murder and Arun’s cousin was a witness in that case. Vedprakash wanted the witness to withdraw his testimony but Arun was against it. Vedprakash and Sandeep then decided to kill Arun and contacted Surender, who was in a jail in Haryana. “Surender contacted Naveen and Rakesh to murder Arun. Vedprakash and Sandeep also paid `5 lakh to the contract killer,” said the police official.

2 auto-lifting gangs busted, four arrested
New Delhi, Sept. 18: The Delhi police on Sunday claimed to have busted two gangs of autolifters with the arrest of four people, including one recently released from jail and recovered 10 stolen vehicles from their possession.
25-year-old Manish, who was recently released on bail, and two of his associates, Gaurav (19) and Sachin (22), were arrested by the police on Sunday morning on a specific input while one Rajender Kumar was taken into custody on Saturday.
Acting on a specific information that Manish and his gang would come to Avantika Market in Rohini, the police laid a trap and arrested them immediately. The motorcycles which they were riding were found to have been stolen from different places in Delhi. “On interrogation, all the three accused disclosed that after release of Manish alias Monu, he proposed a plan to them to steal motorcycles from North Campus, Delhi University area for joy rides and impressing girls,” B.S. Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police, outer district, said. Later, Manish proposed to sell stolen motorcycles to his contacts in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. In this process they gathered to proceed further for Haryana for disposal of stolen motorcycles and were apprehended. — PTI
