Former MoD official ends life
A former under secretary in the ministry of defence who had been in depression since a couple of years was found hanging at his south Delhi residence by his wife on Thursday afternoon.
The 61-year-old retired official, identified as S.C. Sarkar, who retired in August last year as under secretary in defence ministry was found hanging by his wife and brother-in-law at their Lodhi Colony residence on Thursday afternoon. The incident came to light when his wife, who had gone to make some purchases from market, tried to contact him.
“She repeatedly called him on his mobile phone but there was no response. She was calling to enquire whether he had had his lunch. Since there was no response, she called her domestic help and asked him to visit the house. However, the servant’s repeated knocks went unanswered following which she asked her brother-in-law to rush to the house,” a senior police official said.
She also rushed home and informed neighbours who broke open the door. “Sarkar was found hanging. The family said Sarkar was undergoing treatment for depression for the last couple of years. The reasons for his depression were however not clear,” the official said.
A case has been registered at the Lodhi Colony police station and the police has recorded the statement of his family.
