Foreign students claim harassment
Some foreign students have complained to the police that they were stalked and harassed in Nehru Park by two men. A group of 12 students from Pakistan, Bhutan and Bangladesh lodged a complaint with the police alleging that they were stalked and harassed by two men posted with the embassy of Egypt.
The girls said in the complaint that they stopped visiting Nehru Park where the accused allegedly harassed and stalked them for over a month.
A senior police official said that the police has filed an FIR in this respect under Sections 354D (molestation) and 509 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and they were looking into the matter.
The senior police official further said that the victim girls are students of the South Asian University and stay in New Delhi district area.
“They used to go regularly on evening walk to Nehru Park where the accused stalked them. The girls have alleged that the accused whistled, passed lewd comments and stalked them. When the accused did not change their conduct, the girls decided to approach the embassy. They spoke to embassy supervisor and asked him to disclose the names of the persons who harassed them but the supervisor refused to divulge the names of the culprits,” said the police official.
The girls stopped then spoke to the university officials who approached the police. Attempts are being made to identify the culprits, the official said.
“We don’t know whether the accused are Egyptians or locals posted with the embassy,” said the police official.
