Fire at Safdarjung Hospital nursery
Fire broke out in the nursery ward of Safdarjung Hospital in the early hours on Monday. Around 15 infants in the ward had a narrow escape.
The fire department was reported around 4.30 am about the blaze and seven fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot.
Fire officials said that around fifteen infants admitted in the nursery ward had a narrow escape.
“The fire started from the air conditioner attached with the nursery ward and soon engulfed the whole ward. The fire tenders took about an hour to extinguish the fire. The infants were shifted to another ward. The cause of fire is not yet known,” said the fire official adding that a short circuit may have caused the blaze.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a major fire broke out in a factory at Inderlok in Central Delhi on Monday afternoon.
Fire officials said around twenty fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
“The fire was brought under control in an hour. No one was hurt in the incident,” said the fire official.

Mercury dips further as rains lash city

Heavy showers in the city on Monday morning pulled mercury down for the second day in a row and caused waterlogging and traffic chaos.
According to the Met department, the city received 17.1 mm rain from 8.30 in the morning to 5.30 in the evening. Earlier, during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 in the morning, rain gauges measured 58.5 mm rainfall.
The city had received 36.6 mm of rains till 5.30 pm Sunday.
The maximum temperature dropped sharply to 30.3 degrees Celsius, which was nine points below normal, while the minimum was five notches below normal at 23.5° Celsius.
Showers caused waterlogging and traffic snarls in Laxminagar, ITO, Kashmere Gate, Munirka, Dwarka and Dhaula Kuan.
Humidity remained towards the higher side with maximum being recorded at 98 per cent and the minimum at 77 per cent. The Met office has forecast more rains and generally cloudy sky for Tuesday.
