Fervour marks Id ul-zuha celebrations
The festival of Id ul-Zuha was celebrated on Monday with ardour across the city with the faithful offering prayers at various mosques and cattle being sacrificed in large numbers.
Dressed in their festive best, thousands of men and children congregated at mosques across the city for morning prayers where they hugged each other to wish each other.
The Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid were visited by at least 1.75 lakh people each.
Members of the community visited their relatives and friends and thronged markets in the evening.
The festival is celebrated worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God.
The festival is celebrated a day after pilgrims conducting Haj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, descend from Mount Arafat.
It is celebrated approximately 70 days after the end of the month of Ramzan.
