Age Correspondent
New Delhi, Sept. 2

In a major relief to motorists in north Delhi from overcharging at parking lots, the municipal corporation will soon introduce a pre-paid common smart card system for use in all its parking areas. The card would be similar to the Delhi Metro smart card. NDMC officials have directed the contractors operating the parking lots to procure hand-held devices to facilitate the use of smart card. A senior official said, “The pre-paid parking card, which primarily aims to keep a check on the malpractices of parking mafia, can be used to pay charges in all parking lots including street parking.”
A senior official of the Remunerative Project (RP) Cell of the corporation said, “The proposed card will be valid in all parking lots, including street parking and underground or multi-level car parking lots, falling in the North Corporation’s jurisdiction. It will also help in streamlining the parking system and curb revenue loss to the corporation.”
