Fake burglary to cover losses, debt
Delhi police arrested four people for allegedly stage-managing a robbery in south Delhi. The accused, include Tarun Kumar Khandelwal, a businessman who master-minded the robbery to come out of debt he had incurred in business. Khandelwal’s two associates, Salim (23), Suraj (22) and Monu (20) carried out the robbery at his Safdurjung Enclave residence on August 30.
Deputy commissioner of police (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said that the arrest came after police found that Khandelwal was continuously on the phone at the time of the robbery though he claimed that his hands were tied by the robbers.
“Tarun’s grandmother had left jewellery after her death which was kept in her almirah,” Mr Dhaliwal said. His motive was to obtain the jewellery, he added.
During interrogation, Khandelwal confessed that he hatched a plan of a robbery at his own house.
Police officers said that they are yet to recover the full booty. Khandelwal confessed he suffered huge losses in business a couple of years ago which led to huge debts. The accused will be produced in a Delhi court on Friday.
