Eye on polls, govt pushes projects
With only few months left for the Assembly elections in the national capital, all of the government agencies have bolstered up their work.
The projects, which were on papers from last many months and years, are now being treated like the most urgent thing to do. Health minister A.K. Walia on Tuesday announced that the construction work of a 200-bed multi-speciality hospital in Ambedkar Nagar will start from September 1, a month before the elections. Interestingly, on March 29 this year, the government has announced about the construction work of this hospital. While laying the foundation stone of a health centre in Shakarpur area on March 29, Mr Walia had said, “The Delhi government will open twelve more hospitals with total bed strength of 2900 to provide medical facilities in hitherto uncovered areas of the city. The process of starting construction at Dwarka (750 beds), Vikaspuri (200 beds), Madipur (200 beds), Jawlapuri (200 beds), Ambedkar Nagar (200 beds), Sarita Vihar (100 beds) has been initiated. The formalities for construction are underway for remaining six hospitals.” Clouds are still not clear over the starting of construction work of rest of the hospitals. Later in April, the government appointed the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) as an executing agency for the construction of the hospital in April this year.
However, Mr Walia said that the government has completed full spade work in order to facilitate construction at a desired pace.
“The hospital would come up over an area of 2.47 acre. It would have a built-up area of 28,320 sq metre, with a covered area of 18,560 sq metre. It will have six storeys apart from the ground floor and two basements. The hospital would be constructed as per the Green-Building concept to provide vast green area and facilities of recycling of water and rainwater harvesting. It would have general wards apart from mother child wards, advanced labs, a blood bank, ICU and OPDs,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has also issued instruction for speeding up development works in all the 895 unauthorised colonies, home to around 35 lakh people.
The colonies were regularised in September last year and various agencies like the PWD, Delhi Jal Board and municipal corporations have been tasked to put in place all the required infrastructure in the settlements at the earliest.
“The concerned agencies have been asked to speed up infrastructure development works in the 895 colonies,” a senior official said.
