Ex-cop held for harassing couple
A former Delhi police officer has been arrested for allegedly harassing and extorting money from a young couple in Nehru Park area of Chankyapuri, the police said. The accused is suspected of being involved in similar cases of extortion and is being presently questioned.
The accused, identified as Jagdish Chander, a resident of outer Delhi’s Alipur, who has been dismissed from Delhi police, used to impersonate as a sub-inspector and extort money from vulnerable couples sitting in public parks in the city. The arrest follows after a complaint was received by the Delhi police from by a second year student of Delhi University, Mohit Kandola, a resident of south Delhi’s R.K. Puram area.
“The victim was sitting in Chankya Puri’s Nehru Park along with some of his friends and a female accomplice.
As he started to leave the park, Jagdish, who was keeping an eye on him, approached him and asked him about his antecedents. He then told Mohit that he was a sub inspector in Delhi police and threatened to disclose his activities to his parents. The thought of his parents knowing about him wasting time in a public park with a female scared Mohit,” a senior police official said.
The accused read the situation and asked Mohit to pay `1000 if he didn’t want him to approach his parents.
