Ex-Cong MLA’s son among 2 held with `6cr banned drug

The son of a former Congress MLA and his driver were arrested here allegedly with over 2.51 lakh strips of banned pseudoephedrine tablets worth `6 crores, the police said on Monday.
Arvind Ahuja, the 37-year-old son of former MLA Ashok Ahuja, and his driver Manish, 34. were arrested from near IIT in South Delhi on Sunday on a tip-off that the former is indulging in illicit supply of drugs to Mizoram, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
The duo was produced before additional sessions judge M.K. Nagpal who sent Ahuja to two-day police custody to facilitate the arrest of an absconding person and unearthing of a factory and godown used for manufacturing and storing pseudoephedrine tablets.
Manish was sent to judicial custody till May 6.
ACP Yadav said they seized 2,51,680 strips of pseudoephedrine tablets worth `6 crores.
Ahuja, a graduate, owns a chemist shop in Greater Kailash.
“He came in contact with a man in Mizoram who used to receive banned tablets. Ahuja gets huge commission on the transaction. He fell for this lucrative proposal and started supplying the contraband to Mizoram.”
“Arvind took Manish in confidence and started sending the contraband to Mizoram as per demand and direction of receiver of these tablets,” ACP Yadav said.
Manish has studied up to primary school at his native place Rae Bareilly in UP.
