End quarrels, Rahul tells CM, JP
Even after a clear warning from Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the factionalism in the Delhi Congress is not over yet.
On Tuesday, Mr Gandhi once again met chief minister Sheila Dikshit and DPCC chief J.P. Aggarwal to discuss the strategy for upcoming Assembly elections slated in November this year. It is understood that Mr Gandhi called the meeting to tell both the leaders to cooperate as no joint rallies or press meets were held as decided after his warning.
“The meeting was called to examine the party’s preparation for upcoming Assembly elections. We explained the DPCC plan for the election campaign,” Mr Aggarwal told reporters here after the meeting. However, Ms Dikshit avoided media after the meeting.
Sources said that Mr Aggarwal complained about being kept aloof from the government’s rallies and campaigns many times in the past.
At a meeting with the state party leaders on April 18, Mr Gandhi had strictly said that he would not tolerate any indiscipline.
Later in the day, Mr Aggarwal had claimed that there were some differences with Ms Dikshit but they cleared them.
However, sources said that Mr Aggarwal claimed that he is still doing campaign for the party by himself and Ms Dikshit is addressing public gatherings separately without even inviting the state unit chief.
Earlier on February 16, Mr Aggarwal and Ms Dikshit had a clash in front of Mr Rahul Gandhi at a party meet.
