Elderly held hostage at knife point
An elderly woman was held hostage at her south east Delhi residence on Monday evening by two armed assailants who carried out a daring robbery before landing in the police net on Tuesday along with a juvenile and two physically challenged men, who masterminded the incident, .
The accused have been identified as Subhash, 22, Om Prakash, 34, and Sonu Singh, 22. All are residents of Timur Nagar in south east Delhi. A juvenile, who was also involved in the matter, has been sent to a rehabilitation home.
“Om Prakash, a graduate from Jamia Millia Islamia university, used to give tuition classes to the victim’s grandchildren and he had elaborate knowledge about the financial and routine affairs of the family. He hatched the conspiracy along with Sonu. Both are physically challenged,” additional commissioner of police (south east) Virender Singh Chahal, said.
The two accused sent Om Prakash and a juvenile to Sukhdev Vihar residence in New Friends Colony area on Monday evening under the pretext of fixing a landline connection. “The 65-year-old victim identified as Lalita Devi first refused to open the door as she was alone at the house. The accused however told her that they were sent by her son, who works as a lawyer in high court, to fix the landline. She then made the accused dial his son’s number before allowing them into the house,” DCP said.
