Drunk cops storm residence, assault trader
Three inebriated Delhi police officers allegedly barged into the residence of a businessman in southwest Delhi’s Rohini area on Wednesday night and assaulted him. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
Police sources said the accused, identified as head constable Sudhir Kumar and constables Hariya and Mahesh, allegedly barged into the Sector 24, Pocket 17, Rohini residence of Sanjay Goyal and started assaulting him.
Eyewitnesses told told the police that the three accused policemen asked Sanjay Goyal to come out of his residence at around 11 pm on Wednesday.
“When Mr Goyal came out to see what the matter was, the accused constables started shouting and hurling abuses at him. The policemen were accusing Goyal of carrying out immoral activities at his residence. The victim refused to be drawn into an argument with them and he went back into his house. The accused policemen, however, followed him inside and started assaulting him. When Goyal’s driver tried to intervene and rescue him, he too was manhandled by the accused,” a police source said.
The accused police officers then snatched Goyal’s mobile phone and `2,000 and walked out, threatening him of dire consequences.
Goyal, who is reportedly related to the deputy commissioner of the area, then made a call to the police control room.
However, when a team from the police station arrived, the policemen first started taking side of their colleagues and reprimanded the victim.
Deputy commissioner of police (outer) B.S. Jaiswal was not available for his comments despite repeated attempts.
