Drunk cop feasts, refuses to foot bill
A Delhi police constable, who was allegedly in a drunken state, created ruckus at a restaurant in Bhogal on Wednesday evening after he was asked to pay his bill.
The police said the incident took place at Nikku Restaurant in Bhogal on Wednesday night. The accused constable, Harmeet Singh, who is posted at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station, walked into the restaurant and asked a waiter to serve him.
“When he finished his food and started to walk out of the restaurant, he was intercepted by the waiter, who asked him to pay the bill. Hearing this, Harmeet got enraged and tried to assault the waiter. When the staff tried to intervene, he threatened them,” a source said.
The police said the owner of the restaurant, Rajan Taneja, who was away when the brawl broke out, tried to pacify his staff, “However, Harmeet, who was inebriated, threw chairs lying around on the floor and threatened Taneja as well. Taneja then made a call to the police control room following which Harmeet was held and taken to a nearby hospital for a medical examination. Senior police officials of the police station arrived at the spot and pacified the agitated restaurant owner and his staff,” a senior police official said.
“His medical examination has confirmed that he was drunk,” a source said. “After receiving preliminary inquiry report, the constable has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against him,” additional commissioner of police (southeast) V.S. Chahal said.
