Driver jumps red light, beats up a traffic cop
A traffic head constable was assaulted by the driver of a private bus when he stopped his vehicle for allegedly jumping red light near Ashram chowk in southeast Delhi on Thursday.
Police officials said the traffic policeman Shiv Dutt, 42, who is posted in the Lajpat Nagar traffic circle, was deployed near Ashram Chowk. Dutt noticed a private bus from Madhya Pradesh (MP07P 0162), with at least 40 passengers, jumping the red light and signalled the driver Ram Gopal Singh, 40, a resident of Gwalior, MP, to halt the bus. The bus was coming from Badarpur and was headed towards Sarai Kale Khan.
The police said Dutt asked Singh to show the registration documents of the bus following which an argument started between the two. Singh reportedly told Dutt that he too worked with the police earlier and voluntarily gave up the job. The argument took a violent turn and Singh grabbed Dutt by his collar and thrashed him severely. “He tore his clothes following which a crowd gathered at the spot. In the meantime, the PCR was also alerted and a team of cops was sent to the spot,” a senior police official said.
The police said nearly 40 passengers were travelling in the bus, which was impounded and taken to the police station. “Singh has been arrested and he has been booked under Sections 186, 332, 353 of the IPC,” the official said.
