Don’t panic on traffic curbs: CM
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday exhorted people not to panic to see unprecedented security arrangements on the eve of the Commonwealth Games which is to kick start in a fortnight in the capital. She said that Delhi would sport a festive look during the mega sporting event.
The chief minister also called upon the people to use public transport and maintain lane discipline while driving to avoid traffic snarls in the coming days.
“People should be alert and take precautions during Games. Delhi is now well prepared to host Commonwealth Games for which a sense of discipline and dedication is required. People should drive vehicles in their lanes and also prefer public transport. People should take the Games as a national festival,” said Ms Dikshit at a function to inaugurate a 220 KV power station, constructed at a cost of `110 crores, at Ridge Valley area in Dhaula Kuan.
Ms Dikshit asked people not to be fearful that restriction in traffic movement would cripple their daily routine.
The chief minister said that the demand of power in the city is increasing by around seven to eight per cent per annum and all infrastructure upgradation works are being carried out to meet the demand. “All efforts are being made to ensure uninterrupted, quality power supply,” she said.
