Doc couple held for murder bid
The Delhi police has arrested six persons, including a doctor couple, for their alleged involvement in an attack on a doctor outside Shri Vardhman Jain Hospital in outer Delhi.
The accused have been identified as Dr Vinod Kumar, 31, his wife Dr Meenakshi, 29, and four “contract killers” Harish, 21, Amit, 21, Umesh, 30 and Pawan. The accused killers are also suspected of being involved in two other cases.
“On April 27, Dr Ravindra was shot outside Vardhman Hospital and a mobile phone was recovered from the spot which led to the arrest of Pawan from Aligarh. The doctor survived the shooting incident,” said DCP (outer) Chaya Sharma. During investigations, it was revealed that the conspiracy to kill Dr Ravindra was hatched by Dr Vinod who was in love with Meenakshi and wanted to marry her.
“To get rid of Ravindra, Vinod contacted Arvind and Rameshwar, both residents of Aligarh, and pledged `2.5 lakhs to them for eliminating Ravindra. Arvind and Rameshwar later contacted Pawan and his associates and `25,000 advance was paid to them,” DCP Sharma said. A day before shooting Ravindra, Vinod and the assassins came to Rohini in a grey Tata Indica car and carried out a recce of the Vardhman Jain Hospital and surrounding roads.
“Vinod even purchased shoes, clothes and caps from a nearby market to hide the assassins’ description and appearance and provided them two country-made pistols and 4 live cartridges. Investigation revealed that Dr Vinod and Dr Meenakshi were sure that Dr Ravindra would not survive and they solemnised their marriage on April 30 at the Arya Samaj Mandir in Meerut, UP. They were going to Nanital for honeymoon,” DCP Sharma said.
