Discoms’ dues arrears to force bailout by govt
Reeling under severe financial crisis, Delhi government’s power generation company may get a hefty bailout package soon. A senior Delhi government official said that the decision is likely in coming Cabinet meeting. According to officials, Reliance-owned discoms BSES Yamuna Private Limited (BYPL) and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) have not paid the dues of around `3,200 crores.
Earlier in February, the government had merged its two power generation companies Pragati Power Corporation Limited (PPCL) and Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited (IPGCL) for smooth functioning .
“The discoms have paid only `50 crores out of the outstanding amount of `3,337 crores. The power generation company needs more than `200 crores per month as running cost and only `150 crores is left in the company’s account. In such conditions, a bail out package is the only option,” said a senior officer from power ministry.
The Delhi government had granted a financial assistance of `200 crores to PPCL and `100 crores to IPGCL as both these state-run power generation companies have been going through severe financial crisis due to non-payment of dues.
The three discoms have sought a substantial tariff hike claiming that they are not getting cost reflective tariff as the price of power has shot up. BRPL has sought a hike of 1.6 per cent and BYPL of 13 per cent while Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) has sought a hike of six per cent.
Surcharge and Power Purchase Additional Cost will be added on demands of every discom.
